How Life by Design came about...
It might come as a surprise, but I’m actually naturally disorganised.
I spent many years believing that I don’t have a creative bone in my body and that I had a piece of paper attached to my back saying ‘uptight control freak.’
I have since realised much to my relief, that given I get on average a new crazy business idea a day, love experimenting with cooking interiors and fashion in my own unconventional way, and that my journal is a book of messy incoherent thoughts, that actually I am quite creative.
This realisation led me to want to explore more...
- I wondered why I felt so compelled to create balance, order, clarity and harmony as a constant in my life.
- I got interested in the fact that I often really struggle with numbers and remembering detail and information.
- I remembered that at school I really had to apply myself just to pull through with a B, unlike some others who could cram the night before and get an A+.
- I got curious about the circumstances that led me to dedicate much of my career to helping other highly creative entrepreneur people stay organised through my business management company Hub HQ.
- I contemplated my structured family environment - my dad is the king of neat draws and has systems for his systems mum is the queen of getting stuff done with grace. They were my role models.
And then a read a book by Lanna Nakone called Organising for your brain type. The book has a questionnaire that identified your brain style related to organisation, and there it was in plain black and white....I’m the brain style that struggles the most with organisation and the brain style that needs really simple systems to help them stay sane. The penny dropped! I am organised and have systems because I HAVE to be. If I wasn’t my world would be chaos.
I am custom built to do what I do. I understand how it feels to be out of control, unproductive, confused, forgetful, overwhelmed and unable to get stuff done. I have a foot in both camps... I can dance in creative inspiring chaos and then with the skills and disciple I have my parents to thanks for, I can turn that chaos into something that’s logical, tangible, simple, sustainable and has value in the world.
I am fascinated with the relationship between structure and flow...control and creativity...BAU and innovation, systems and in the moment decisions. It’s the stuff of life...Nature at is essence. Understanding what makes me tick and how to organise my life to make the most of it is my journey, and I hope that in understanding myself more and in sharing what I’m learning along the way, I can be of some service to you.
